The weekend gone by was an exulting time of re-discovery for a number of people. As the hours rolled on, burdens visibly lightened and shoulders straightened out as they found strength and support in Jesus.
The Christian Life Seminar (CLS) held on June 22-23, 2013 at Dhyana Ashram, Chennai was just like the break of monsoon on the earth parched by the summer heat. This experience brought life into the lives of the couples, as they experienced the love of the loving God.The CLS started with a session on God’s love by Mr Irwin, who walked them through on a journey of God’s love. He spoke to them on how God’s love brings happiness, a happiness that fills and satisfies. He delved on God as the source of joy and happiness through his plans for each of their lives.
At the end of every session, the participants spent time before the Blessed Sacrament and reflected on the message and their lives.
The participants were then split into different groups headed by a facilitator, to share how they have experienced God’s love in their lives and the times they have not.
This was followed by Holy Mass where Rev Peter Raymond, Director Family Commission, Chennai Arch Diocese spoke on the pivotal role of the family in the Christian faith. He laid emphasis on bringing up children in the faith through guidance and by setting an example through their lives.
This was followed by a session on What it means to be a Christian by Sharon. She explained the deeper aspects of being a Christian as compared to the outwardly signs that people are habituated to. She explained the need to model ourselves inwardly, rather than outwardly, as Christians.Following this, the groups split up to share on their lives as Christians, the challenges they face and the expectations they have.
The day ended with the holy rosary with each decade being offered for a special intention to their make lives more beautiful. The children performed lovely action songs that they learnt during the day.
Sunday morning began with a wonderful session on Sin and Repentance by Kevin who talked about how sin takes a person away from God. He emphasized the importance of turning away from sin and coming back to God.
At the end of the session, the groups shared on how Sin has kept them away from God and his love. Following this, the participants met their mentors for a one-to-one session to discuss their lives and its challenges and to seek help in the areas they struggle.
The participants then prepared themselves for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The priests expressed their appreciation that participants were encouraged to spend time during the sacrament of reconciliation.
The CLS came to an end with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist followed by the children showcasing the action songs and enacting the bible verses.
At the end, the participants shared their experience at the CLS and praised God for his abundant mercy.
Children over 2 years had a separate program while their parents attended their session, they had different activities, action songs and coloring games to learn more about God and his abundant love.
