Advent Series: Height of Selflessness

Hannah said,

“I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted my request. Now I, in turn, give him to the Lord” – 1 Samuel 1:27-28

How often do we pray really hard to God for something and when we get it we totally forget to be grateful for it?

Hannah was desperate for a child. She prayed incessantly for one and God blessed her. She however, never forgot the vow she made. Years later, she would return and offer her child back to the service of the Lord.

Hannah is a model of ultimate selflessness. She teaches us that everything we have is a gift from God. We cannot call anything our own and we cannot become selfish and not give to others what God has so generously given to us.

Do we use our time, talents and treasure for the work of God?
Do we share the word of God with others? Or are we happy growing by ourselves?

“This season, let us allow Jesus into our lives and leave behind our selfishness, indifference and closed attitude to others” – Pope Francis
