Mangalore: Family Day 2012

The 9th Family Day of CFCI, Mangalore was celebrated on 14th October 2012 at St Dominic Church Hall, Ashoknagar, Mangalore.

The program began with a Praise Parade at 9am sharp. Each Chapter made a grand entry to hall to the applause by singing/dancing/enacting the previously assigned Psalms for each chapter for this purpose. CFCI Youth undoubtedly stole the show at this Praise Parade. One could feel the movement of the Spirit in the assembly right from the word go, as Psalms were being recited one after the other. It was amazing to see the performances of the people and the creative ideas they came up with to make the Psalm more meaningful.

Priests joined in for the Family Day celebration Fr. Victor D’Mello, Spiritual Director of CFCI, Mangalore was the main celebrant of the Holy Eucharist. Fr. Andrew D’Souza, Parish Priest of Bondel Parish and Fr. Santhosh Rodrigues, Director, Family Life Service Centre of the Diocese co-celebrated the Holy Eucharist. Fr. Andrew D’Souza delivered the Homily on the main theme of CFCI for the year ‘There is no condemnation in Christ‘. He conveyed the message in his own charismatic way that there is only love in Christ and there is no condemnation. CFCI being a missionary community needs to understand this in a way so as to reach out to proclaim the good news of love, life and family and to be the true heralds of God’s kingdom. He emphasized that it is important to practice this in our own families to begin with!

Fr. Valerian D’Souza, Parish Priest, Our lady of Miracles, (Milagres), Mangalore, joined the celebrations and conveyed his appreciation of the work being done by CFCI. Further, he invited the community to begin a CLS in his parish. He assured his full cooperation and support for the mission.

It was inspiring to listen to members from different age groups coming forward and testifying for the Lord and about how the Lord touched them through this community and changed their lives and how this community gave them what they needed, what they were looking for, and the love that they received from this community. It also made one realize the importance of CFC in each ones life and the role it plays in shaping the life of our members.

CFCI Youth Band The music ministry comprising of members from CFCI Youth and CFCI Singles contributed in much to lead the gathering in Praise and Worship at the beginning of the celebration in the morning and further to liven up the praise fest at the conclusion. Games conducted on biblical verses served two fold purpose of mingling amongst the members of different chapters and also convey the word of God! The elders, the young members and kids of the community mingled with each other and enjoyed each other’s company. It was an opportunity to spend the day with people who share the same passion for Christ. It was also amazing to see the love and the bonding as brothers and sisters in this community.

Sumptuous breakfast at the beginning of the day kept the gathering on its feet till the program concluded with festal lunch which was served at 2 pm. Though the program was concluded celebrations are continuing in its own way in each ones heart.
