The Power of the Word of God

For neither herb nor poultice cured them, but it is your word, O Lord that heals all people. (Wisdom 16:12)

My dad suffers from multiple illnesses including heart problems, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. He was prescribed around 10 tablets a day which included 2 sleeping pills along with a shot of daily insulin. My mom too, suffered from insomnia and could not manage to sleep without sleeping pills.

It was during this time that I began to realise the power of the word of God. As the book of Deuteronomy says,

“Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deut 6:6-9)

As such, we began having numerous prayer meetings at our home where the word of God was proclaimed. We spent time listening to various bible teachings as well as reading and meditating on the word of God. I also started writing and pasting scripture passages of healing around their bed e.g.

By the stripes of Jesus, I am healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

Slowly but surely, the power of the word of God became evident in our lives. Both my parents have miraculously stopped taking even a single sleeping tablet. This is all the more amazing considering the fact that my dad had been taking sleeping tablets for more than 10 years now. We have also noticed that common illnesses like colds, fever and headaches have become relatively nonexistent in our homes ever since we have begun professing the word of God at home.

Truly, every word of God proves true;

He is a shield to those who take refuge in him. (Proverbs 30:5)
