Why me Lord?

I have so many times said this to God when things just don’t go right. Moments when everything was in place and i lifted it up in prayer and then things fell apart or when i just had faith and with that i mean complete faith that God would work things out but nothing happened. There is just one feeling that controls me at such time –ANGER. I can’t understand why God would do this to me or why would he let me fall and fail. Why would God want me to SUFFER…?
And then as i stand in front of him with a million question marks in my head. He simply tells me it’s important to SUFFER. And guess what that does not clear anything but just an addition to the question marks. I fail to understand how suffering can be good. How can it fit in God’s plan?

Why me Lord?

Then i just stopped looking for answers and said that “Lord let your will be done” and i realized the suffering is truly important. Suffering provokes three human responses: compassion, admiration and fear. The very first human and original sin can also been seen as a “happy mistake” because it also brought about God’s loving and redeeming plan of salvation in Jesus Christ. So too can suffering. For all its evil and awful aspects, it can be seen as an experience from which good can be achieved. The opportunity to suffer is like an opportunity to be like Christ and to live for Christ sake.

If we all want to be a part of Christ in his salvation and reach heaven someday then it’s necessary that we suffer because to attain salvation we have to be a part of Christ suffering first. It is in weakness that we are more apt to trust in Christ because we realize that what we accomplish is not of our own doing, but the grace of Christ is working in us. Furthermore, it is in our weakness and suffering that we grow in humility and cannot pride ourselves in our accomplishments. We suffer “to make us rely, not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.” (2 Corinthians 1:9)

The cross often reminds us of death and suffering of our God but i know now that the cross is a sign of life. Because suffering itself gives life. Our suffering in union with the suffering of the Jesus can help us transform the whole world. And that’s why i stopped claiming healing for my pain and stopped questioning God for my suffering. I don’t know how these things work and if you ask me how are u sure about it; i have no answer. But then again im not that smart to know about God and all his ways. If i was then i would be with him right now.

Just trust God in whatever situation you are in and let’s pray for each other so that we have the strength to carry the cross that we are blessed with. Suffering is your opportunity to go through the garden of Gethsemane to the mount Calvary and it does not end there. Suffering ends with the rolled stone next to the empty tomb.

  1. theme is suffering accept it or reject it ok agreed, but why are we christians so lukewarm, though day in and day out. we do have lots to take for our spiritual growth, but yet the same no difference, and then we suffer injustice, why is it so not coz our priests and nuns only pray, that we may have our sins be forgiven, and pray only so as to receive the graces that he has bestowed for his suffering humanity. amen

  2. Hello Fiona! The comment you made is not very clear but i would still like to thank you for reading the article and commenting. I think i need to clarify that the suffering i was writing about wasn’t indicating keeping quiet in times of injustice (being lukewarm) but actively suffering. The time when you will stand for the rights of others and speak out against injustice (not being lukewarm) be sure there will be persecution, similar situation that JESUS went through. and this is the suffering we have to willingly accept.
There is a price you have to pay to be a prophet, a disciple – DENY YOURSELF, CROSS, PERSECUTION but there is more to the story…. YOU WILL BE ONE WITH JESUS.

The sad part is people today have a very shallow understanding of suffering and a totally wrong understanding of what happiness is. So yes, its time to stop being lukewarm and start actively suffering for God.

I hope i have clarified a little bit of your doubt. God bless.
