The life of St. Augustine is one of the most beautiful examples of God’s unfailing love and unconditional mercy. Augustine, right from a tender age was subject to the various ways of the world which influenced him and led him down the paths of sin and corruption. Only something that is good is capable of undergoing corruption, for if it were not good then there would be nothing in it to be corrupted. I had a classmate who frequently suffered from bouts of depression and suicidal thoughts. One day, after unsuccessfully attempting to end her life, she approached me for help. Among many things, I spoke to her about Jesus and his love for us. She did not have many friends but it was this one encounter that apparently transformed her life, as I would find out years later. She is now doing very well in her career, prays regularly and never again has had thoughts of despair or suicide. Continue reading

The life of St. Monica is one of great fortitude, patience, perseverance and prayer. Her life situation could have easily turned her into a nagging wife, a bitter daughter-in-law and a despairing parent; yet she was none of these. At a young age of 13, she was given in marriage to a pagan, Patricius. No sooner she was married; she realized that this marriage was not going to be smooth sailing.
