“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word”
– Luke 1:38
The Blessed Virgin Mary was preserved from the stain of original sin in the first instant of her conception in the womb of her mother. This was a singular privilege, the grace of God, granted in view of the merits of Jesus Christ.
Mary always leads us to Christ. She is the one who shows us how to live the lives of holiness. In the teaching of Vatican II, the council fathers refer to Mary as the one who helps us to know how to live holiness.
If we as Catholics are not devoted to Mary, we will not be devoted to Christ, for the two go hand in hand. They are related to one another.
On this Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, let us also recognize our truest destiny, our deepest vocation: to be loved, to be transformed by love, to be transformed by the beauty of God.
Let us allow ourselves to be watched over by her so that we may learn how to be more humble, and also more courageous in following the Word of God.
Pray an extra personal rosary today and offer it up for all those who struggle to believe in Mary.
