“I have compassion for the crowd because they have been with me for three days and have nothing to eat”
– Matthew 15:32
Jesus saw that the people were hungry and tired. He could have abandoned them and thought only about Himself and His disciples.
But rather than being selfish, Jesus exhibits a selfless act of love and kindness. And it is exactly this love for His people that results in the miracle being worked.
It is very difficult to place the needs of others before us. Because we feel that others benefit while we don’t even get appreciated. But Christ teaches us differently.
“Remember that the proof of love is in the works. Where love exists, it works great things. But when it ceases to act, it ceases to exist”
– Pope St. Gregory the Great
Let us ask the good Lord for grace in this season of Advent to have a heart of compassion just like Jesus.
Try and be compassionate to the people who serve you: At home, work place, etc. Go out of your way to do something nice for them.
