Family Day – 2019

Young or not-so-young, single or married, the MFC Bangalore members from every ministry gathered together to celebrate the solidarity of their missionary community, nay family at Family Day on 8 December 2019, the second Sunday of Advent at Carmelaram Theology College.

On stepping into the hall, every member and their beloved guests were transported into a Christmas Wonderland; every nook and corner was adorned with décor that got every member into the festive mood. The Music Ministry got everyone’s energy levels soaring by invoking the presence of the Holy Spirit through a riveting praise and worship session. From that point onwards, the MCs – Santa and his elf who had travelled all the way from the North Pole took over the show! They called upon the former Country Servant, Tito Jose, to unveil the new name and logo of the community – Missionary Families of Christ (MFC) and then welcomed the current Country Servant, Jimmy Xavier to update the chapter on the happenings of MFC Bangalore in 2019 and the events to come in 2020. They then invited the adorable Kids Ministries from the North and South chapter who danced their hearts out for Christ and performed a Marian play that featured the various apparitions and images of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There couldn’t have been a cuter start to the cultural program. Ensuing this were outdoor activities that included games, information and merchandise stalls. Indeed there was something interesting for everyone.

The big happy family then got back into the hall for the Holy Mass which was celebrated by Bishop Lawrence Pius Dorairaj. His Grace reiterated Pope Francis’ teachings on the need for faith-centred families. The Mass also included the solemn Covenant Ceremony of MFC’s newest Youth Ministry members, thereby making the day even more auspicious by expansion of the MFC Bangalore family.

After enjoying a delicious lunch, the family was re-energized to actively participate in the rest of the day. The youth, singles and couples delivered one captivating musical performance after another. The music was so entrancing that it was almost impossible for the crowd to stop their feet from tapping to the sound of the catchy beats! Every performance had Christ at the center and reassured the audience of the sheer joy and fun that lies within our faith. Between every performance, a family member from every ministry stepped up and shared their testimony of how the Lord has worked in their life. Along with the power-packed performances and witty repartee of the MCs, these testimonies reminded its members what the Catholic faith stands for – that behind every good memory and bad experience there is a God who loves them.

In keeping with the spirit of Advent, the charismatic nightingales of the community sang Christmas carols that solely focused on the sacred birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. On that very melodious note, the MCs called it a day. They bid the MFC clan goodbye and made their way back to the North Pole.

Every MFC family-member walked away with a small keepsake of the Nativity Crib as a reminder of not only the fond memories of the day but also of the true love of the Holy Family, a love that every member in MFC strives to build in their own families. Thus, like all MFC events, the crowd walked away with a deep sense of gratitude for being a part of such a community and with a profound conviction to build stronger Christ-centered families.
