Bible Passage related to the Mystery: Revelation 12
A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.
Mary, our mother, queen of heaven and earth is depicted by St. John the apostle as the woman clothed with the sun and adorned with a crown of stars.
In the revelation given to Ven. Mary of Agreda, The Incarnate Word said: “To my true and natural Mother belong all the creatures which were created and redeemed by me, and of all things over which I am King, she too shall be the legitimate and supreme Queen.” The Holy Spirit said:
“Since she is called my beloved and chosen spouse, she deserves to be crowned as Queen for all eternity.”
(The Mystical City of God)
What more proof is needed to say that Mary, is truly Queen of Heaven and Earth? During her journey on earth, she was the simplest and the humblest woman, the most perfect handmaid of God. She was so humble that God the Father chose to raise her above every creature in heaven and on earth, thus giving her the highest honour after the Trinity itself. Being queen, she listens to all our needs and pays heed to all the desires of our hearts, and in order to fulfil them, she herself intercedes before her son on our behalf. God Himself desires to distribute His Graces through her and when she asks anything of Him, He would never turn her down.
“It is as if a peasant, wishing to gain the friendship and benevolence of the king, went to the queen, and presented her with a fruit, which was his whole revenue, in order that she might present it to the king. The queen, having accepted the poor little offering from the peasant, would place the fruit on a large and beautiful dish of gold, and so, on the peasant’s behalf, would present it to the king. Then the fruit, however unworthy in itself to be a king’s present, would become worthy of his majesty, because of the dish of gold on which it rested and the person who presented it.”
(True Devotion to Mary)
Many times when we lift up our prayers and offerings to our King, they may be tainted with our self-love, like the distractions or sleepiness that come our way when we pray. But when we offer them to Jesus through the hands of our Queen, she purifies and embellishes them and presents them to our King with her own hands and with all the love in her heart. When we ask her to protect us from temptation, she commands the entire army of angels to come to our aid and defend us. When we share with her our heart’s desires of growing in Holiness, she gives us her own heart and virtues. When we meditate on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary with her, we adorn her with crowns of roses and make Jesus’ heart very happy.
- Do I really believe that Mary is the queen of my soul?
- Do I really call onto Mary and tell her about my worries and anxieties?
- Do I ask for her intercession in times of need, especially for the good of others?
- Do I help in adorning her with crowns of roses by praying the rosary?
- Do I offer my prayers and offerings to Jesus through Mary?
- Do I ask for Mary’s protection and to remain under her mantle in moments of temptation?
There came a point in my life when I was terrified of death, terrified of burning and suffering in purgatory and these thoughts kept frightening me. I knew that Jesus is a Merciful Father, but I also knew that He is a just judge and that if He were to judge me and look at my heart, I would be doomed for eternity. But as Divine Providence willed it, the book ‘True Devotion to Mary’ caught my attention and it soon led me to consecrate myself completely to the Queen of my soul. And little by little she made me understand that when I give myself entirely to her, she gives herself entirely to me too, along with all her goodness and virtues. She helped me believe that at the point of death when I shall be judged since I have given her all my prayers and sacrifices I would probably appear before God with empty hands. But at that moment, she will place into my hands all her virtues and faithfulness, since I am hers and she is mine. And now, I no longer fear death for I know I’m safe in her heart.
O Queen of my soul, loving and tender mother, I offer thee my body and soul, my goods-both interior and exterior and even the value of all my good actions. Please always make me attentive to Jesus’ burning thirst for Love and for souls. May I always have recourse to thee in all my joys and necessities. Thus, making me a fit instrument in thy Immaculate hands for bringing the greatest possible glory to God. O sweet Queen, help me live like thee and help me love like thee. Amen.
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, pray for us O Holy Mother of God, that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.
