We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.
~ Romans 8:28
It has been a really long time since I have been trying to get a job in Human Resources. I tried using many of my contacts but to no avail. A lot of friends promised to help me out, but nothing seemed to work. I did have a job in an advertisement company but it was very stressful and did not bring me any sense of fulfilment.
Joining the CFCI Singles Community in Porvorim helped me develop a personal prayer time. I would spend time in front of the Blessed Sacrament and pray to the Lord, but my only plea would be to give me a job abroad. I never even asked the Lord what He wanted for my life. It was only about me and how I could go abroad, make money and enjoy my life.
As I spent time in prayer, the following Bible verse struck me:
“God will fully satisfy every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
I kept spending time in prayer, meditating on this word and waiting for a job. However, nothing happened.
I was extremely disappointed and wondered if the Lord would ever answer my prayer. One evening as I sat before the Blessed Sacrament, the Lord spoke to me clearly and asked me why I wanted to go abroad, knowing very well that it would result in me giving up on the community, which would in turn affect my spiritual growth.
I decided at that very moment, that I would surrender all my dreams and wishes into the Lord’s hands and wait for His will to be done in my life. As I read the Scriptures, I was further reassured that
it was easy in the sight of the Lord to make a poor man rich suddenly, in an instant.
Now, I was completely at rest, knowing that even if I got a job in Goa itself, it would be one that I loved. I persevered in prayer, this time without day dreaming. A few weeks later, I answered an interview for a company and to my complete amazement; I got the job in a couple of days, ironically minutes before my Singles meeting.
I was thrilled beyond words and just thanked the Lord for his faithfulness. I learnt that evening that through prayers, one can move mountains. The Lord will always give us what we need, maybe not at the time we want it but for sure at the time we need it.
If we are faithful to God, He will never fail us. As the prophet Jeremiah writes,
“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
