The Mom who only wants to Help

Since my childhood I have known about Mother Mary and that she is our mother. What I never knew was that she has been speaking to people just like Jesus does. My journey with her started when I attended a day program at the logos retreat centre with one of my friends. There a woman approached us and prayed for us, and said to my friend that when she prayed Mother Mary said something about him and his family. I was both amazed and shocked at the same time – that Mother Mary spoke too! From then on I read posters on Instagram and Facebook about Mother Mary and shared about her on social media. Once I came across this quote of

St. Maximillian Kolbe, “Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did.”

As I posted more about her, people from other faiths started attacking me with many statements like the Catholics worship Mary, etc. So I decided to invest more time in apologetics as I was inspired by

1 Peter 3:15 – “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”.

I learned a lot from a book called Hail Holy Queen by Scott Hahn who is a former protestant and another book called Behold your Mother by another former protestant Tim Staples. Even though at that time I was posting about Mother Mary or praying the Rosary I didn’t quite have a relationship with her, which according to my expectation is that she would talk to me.

One day I was at a friend’s place and we were cooking together when I asked him what God said when he prayed for me? His reply was that God didn’t say but Mother Mary said: “You talk much about her but you don’t know her”. I was troubled in my mind. He went on to give his testimony that once he had overstayed in India (beyond Visa expiry date) which meant he couldn’t do anything, not even receive cash from Western Union. After three days of being without food, he spoke to a nun from Italy about his need for cash, and that she could send it through Money Gram, not Western Union. She sent it through Western Union by mistake and he got very worried. That time he felt Mother Mary telling him to go along with his documents to Western Union nevertheless and take the money. He doubted but still, he obeyed. He also felt Mother Mary telling him to pray the Rosary on the way. So he did go there and the cashier told him that he can’t receive money because of expired documents. He discussed with another man in the office who asked him to check the date below. The man from the cashier saw the writing text becoming a number suddenly and in this way my friend was able to receive the money. Through this friend’s testimony, my faith increased.
During the time when I was attending Confirmation classes, I met a member of our community and the topic of Mother Mary came up. She asked me whether I was doing the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. When I asked her about it she advised me to first start with reading the book Total consecration to Jesus through Mary by St. Louis de Montfort and that the consecration had about 33 days of preparation. So we need to pick up a day for beginning it in such a way that it will end up on a feast day of Mother Mary and so I did the consecration and continued journeying with Mother Mary.

There are a lot of incidences of which I will recall just a few – once I had a difficult time paying rent, and the Holy Spirit put this quote of St John Vianney in my heart

“Only after the Last Judgment will Mary get any rest; from now until then, she is much too busy with her children.”

I picked up my Rosary and I continued to pray the Rosaries till somebody called me to ask how I was doing. I shared not so well and about the struggle to pay the rent and the person replied that it’s no problem and that he will give me that amount!

Another incident is when I liked a girl and after some time of friendship, I wanted to take her out to propose. I first approached Mother Mary because I had learned regarding relationships that she is the best person to talk to. So I asked her, “What do you think about this girl?” And she said, “She is not ready because she has many confusions in her heart. Just keep her in prayer”. I said okay Mama, prayed the Three Hail Mary’s and off I went. I was still in doubt, so I decided to go to the Adoration Chapel. I asked Jesus the same question and He told me to ask that girl, “What happened in this particular month?” as I asked, she explained what had happened to her and this confirmed Mother Mary’s message.

I realized that the more we start getting close to Mother Mary and start sharing about her with others, their lives are impacted as well. One of my sisters doesn’t follow the Catholic faith, but she told me recently that she was not able to sleep easily and so she made this small prayer to Mother Mary “My brother always speaks to me about you. Please help me to sleep at ease, and she felt her room became cool and she slept in peace at that time”.

I would like to encourage everyone to build their relationship with Mother Mary and remember this beautiful quote by

St. Josemaria Escriva. “Before, by yourself, you couldn’t. Now, you’ve turned to our Lady, and with her, how easy!”
